Saint Patrick’s Day is approaching
and with it, a flurry of wild parties and colorful parades. The Irish festival promises
the most awesome celebrations and it is perhaps one of my most eagerly awaited holidays.
I mean what is there not to like? As a guy I do like to drink my fair share of
beer and this is perhaps one of the few holidays, which actively promotes that!
Add to this, the increased business I get from orders and is it any wonder that
I am a fan.
As always I like to share my
views on costumes and costume accessories that will make for a fun and
memorable St. Patrick’s Day. The wacky creations somehow inspire me to even put
some eccentricity into my own designs. I do love those funny Saint Patrick’s
Day shirts, pants and the crazy variations of the ever-popular leprechaun
costume. Add to these wacky outfits, the most unique set of costume accessories
and we are ready to party!! Brightly colored Saint Patrick’s Day bead
necklaces, shoes, hats and glasses, the list is endless....There really is no reason for any of you to
look less than fabulous, come this St. Patrick’s Day.
Before I start rambling away,
lets start by taking a look at the men’s costumes.
Men’s Saint Patrick’s Day Costume Ideas
For all the guys, St.
Patrick’s Day definitely holds a special place…I mean not only you get to dress
up but you also get the opportunity to get wasted completely, without anyone
giving you the stink eye. After all, drinking is the part of the manifesto when
it comes to St. Patrick’s Day!
Another thing that is
considered an integral part of the celebrations is the absence of any color
other than green. While I am all for modifying traditions, I just feel that
some should not be messed with. This is the reason why I have only picked green costumes for this article, as I feel that this is the distinguishing
characteristic of St. Patrick’s Day and it should remain so.
A nice looking leprechaun
costume is always a great choice for any St. Patrick’s Day parade or party. Take
a look at this one:
An emerald green jacket with
black lapels and cuffs coupled with a green/yellow vest, definitely a good
color combination. I really like the breeches btw, which I feel makes this
costume a lot more fun and comical.
Now I can perfectly
understand if the idea of dressing up like a little fairy creature may not be
very appealing to some of you. If that is the case, I would recommend going for
a simple green outfit, which is comfortable enough like your everyday clothes but
still classifies as a costume. Such as,
A smart green vest with
matching bow tie and hat makes for a great St. Patrick’s Day costume. No need
to hassle with any difficult leprechaun costumes if simplicity is your preference.
Funny and comical outfits make for great costumes, especially for a Saint Patrick’s Day parade. A good
example of such a costume is:
Appropriately green and
extremely ludicrous with the suspenders and beverage belt, such costumes can put a smile on the faces of even the most uptight people.
Women’s St. Patrick’s Day Costume Ideas
While I am aware that Saint
Patrick’s Day is considered more of a guys’ holiday, what with all the drinking
and crazy partying….But hey, that is no reason to stop all you women from
having fun! Why not give all the men a run for their money in the drinking and
wild partying department? St. Patrick’s Day is after all a time to let loose
and forget your inhibitions.
Sexy green dresses, shamrock
skirts with matching tops are just some of the ideas on what you can do to look
fabulous, come St. Patrick’s Day. Trust me when I say this, in order to have a
good time, you need to look good yourself!
When looking good is a
priority as in this case, authentic looking costumes are probably your best
bet. Considering this is St. Patrick’s Day we are talking about here, a nice
green leprechaun costume is the perfect choice.
Cute and spunky, the inner
light green dress is complimented nicely by the outer bottle green jacket. It
is simple, proportionately cut, you really can’t go wrong with such an outfit.
There may be those of you
that may want to dress up as a leprechaun but with a sexier side. Something to
separate you from all the girls dressed up as leprechauns I guess! A St.
Patrick’s Day parade would sooo not be complete without a bunch of sexy
leprechaun women. Take a look at this outfit:
A nice green top with a sexy
short black skirt, complimented with an edgy tuxedo style jacket..Accessorize
it with a leprechaun hat and you are ready to party!
If leprechauns are not your
cup of tea, there are plenty of other costumes that are green and glossy enough
to qualify as ‘appropriate’ St. Patrick’s Day Costumes. Such as:
Kids' St. Patrick’s Day Costume Ideas
Saint Patrick’s Day offers a
good opportunity to spend some quality time with the family and that includes
the kids, that is if you’re lucky enough to have them. Now, I may not know much
about today’s kids considering I don’t have any but hey I was one a long time
ago! I remember the numerous Mardi Gras or St. Patrick’s Day parades that my
mom & dad took me to and how much fun they were. When I turned 16, I started going with friends
instead, but I still hold on to the fond memories of the ones that I went to
with family. The point that I am trying to make is don’t dump your kids with some
sullen babysitter, take them with you (preferably in costume as they will love
you for it).
There are numerous cheap
Saint Patrick’s Day costumes, available for kids online. Most of them are pretty good. Take a look at
this one:
Basically a kiddie version of
the adult female leprechaun costume. Will get the job done and should not be
too pricey.
Now for the little boys, once
again it is the leprechaun costume, which reigns supreme. Considering that
children can be temperamental, it is probably a good idea to let them have
their way and dress up as leprechauns. It seems there is not much thought put
into kids costumes as once again the most popular costume I found online was a
kiddie version of the adult leprechaun costume.
But, hey why try to improve
something which is not broken, right? Such St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun costumes usually include the essentials- the green vest, jacket and pants and tend to be pretty sturdy. No need to worry about the mischievous tyke ruining another outfit!
Saint Patrick’s Day Costume Accessories
The right set of costume accessories
can transform a perfectly good costume and make it extraordinary. St Patrick’s
Day hats, shoes or jewelry such as bracelets and necklaces, all go into making
sure that you look fabulous for the occasion.
Hats, hats, hats and more
hats…I just can’t say it enough. Hats are the quintessential costume accessory.
You CANNOT ever have too many of hats and this applies even more to costume
events such as Saint Patrick’s Day. Take a look at these St. Patrick’s Day
hats:
A top hat, bowler hat,
mini-hat and not a hat at all but just as useful, a headband! All these hats,
shall we say, are just a few examples of the huge variety of headgear available
for St. Patrick’s Day. So, really don’t settle for any run of the mill
unimaginative hat, please! Some of these hats, the simpler ones at least can
even be used as funky party wear hats, especially for the ever-popular disco
nights.
Second in importance only to
hats, are shoes. While I feel that shoes are not a very important part of a
Saint Patrick’s Day assemble for men, it is pretty important when it comes to
women. Probably because nobody looks at a guy’s shoes when they are assessing
his attire. However, for women, it is a whole different ball game. Unfortunately
or fortunately (depending on the way you want to look at it), women just can’t escape
by wearing black shoes with what I am guessing, is a very shimmery green
outfit. There are a lot of options available online so you need not worry.
Ballet shoes, flared heels
and platform heels, are just some of the few that belong to a long list of St.
Patrick’s Day shoes. While they are pretty one-time only, I mean you really
can’t wear shamrock shoes on any other occasion apart from St. Patrick’s Day,
they are pretty cheap. So it’s up to you, if you have the dough, then go for
it.
Apart from shoes and hats, which
I consider to be essential for any Saint Patrick’s Day outfit, everything else
are just add-ons that you don’t necessarily need. Necklaces, bracelets and
other costume jewelry tend to distract from the outfit that you have
painstakingly put together, so avoid them. If I have to recommend any form of
jewelry, I would say go for bead necklaces. Not only do they look great at a
St. Patrick’s Day parade, but they are also a lot of fun to throw around!
Plastic bead necklace in the
customary green color that has come to be associated with St. Patrick’s Day.
Cheap as well, so no tears will be shed when you loose them, as I am sure you
will!
So, now you’re ready to begin
all your costume preparations for Saint Patrick’s Day, quite well in advance.
Hopefully I have given you some ideas on the kind of look you want to go for.
If you happen to be a hands-on kind of person like me, you can try to make your
own outfit, otherwise there is always the online route. There are plenty of
options available on the net. That said, I hope all of you achieve the look you
want to go for, this St. Patrick’s Day. I know I will be having a lot of fun
and I wish you the same!
